Huna Cleansing and Renewing Breaths

Huna Breathing Techniques

One of the first things you learn in Huna is the power of the breath.  Mastering your breath helps you master your power, your health and your well-being.  Here are a couple breathing techniques to clear and stimulate the respiratory system. Go slowly with these techniques and work yourself up to more repetitions very gradually. If you feel dizzy, stop.  My gratitude to Vince Wingo and the Huna Research Institute for their outstanding Huna teachings!

Cleansing Breath

Here is a breathing technique that helps you to ventilate and cleanse the lungs. It stimulates the cells and tones the entire respiratory system. It can be used any time you are tired, or if you’ve been around smoke or pollutants.

1) Inhale a complete breath.  Fill the lower part of your lungs first by descending the diaphragm. Next, fill the middle part of your lungs by expanding the chest. Finally, fill the upper part of your lungs by lifting the chest and upper ribs.

2) Hold the breath for a few seconds.

3) Pucker your lips as if you were whistling without pushing out your cheeks. Exhale a little air through the small opening with considerable force. Stop while retaining the rest of the air, and then exhale a little more in the same way. Repeat until the air is completely out.

Oxygenizing Breath

This breathing technique stimulates the cells of the lungs and creates an incredible rush of oxygen to your body. Do not overdo it. If you feel dizzy, stop and walk around a little. Go easy. It stimulates your entire body and is very useful if you’ve ever been a smoker.

1) Stand erect with your hands on your chest.

2) Inhale a complete breath as described in the cleansing breath above, very gradually and slowly. As you are inhaling, gently tap your chest with the finger tips. Move your hands around to stimulate every part of your lungs.

3) When the lungs are full, pat the chest with your palms.

4) Exhale as described in the cleansing breath.

Combine these breathing techniques with a guided meditation like Renewal for ultimate relaxation and peace of mind.
